The Páramo Poncho is ideal for warm and humid climates

Whether you are active or static outdoors in hot, wet conditions, you will often need speedy protection from heavy tropical showers, but can quickly overheat in a conventional waterproof jacket.

The Páramo Poncho offers a practical solution, providing rain protection but with minimal insulation. The long length and zoned Pump Liner® give good water-shedding. Its packability and ease of putting on make it a useful and weight-efficient garment for hot, wet conditions.

The Poncho offers great water-shedding with maximum ventilation, user-friendly ‘sleeves’ and is easy to pack.

  • Excellent rain protection without trapping heat provided by water-repellent fabric with zoned Pump Liner® in hood and shoulders and Poncho’s long length, even when worn over a pack.
  • Keeps wearer and equipment dry while allowing use of hands by easily engaged colour-coded poppers at cuffs and sides to create ‘sleeves’.
  • Ease of carrying due to lightweight windproof construction which packs into the Poncho’s internal pocket

Nikwax Analogy Windproof FabricNikwax® Windproof cuts windchill and protects your insulation but still provides excellent moisture vapour transfer, allowing your perspiration to escape. The fabric is light but very durable and UV resistant so providing excellent protection in all environments. The use of Analogy Pump Liner in this garment across the hood and shoulders provides excellent watershedding and weather protection.

If you maintain it with Nikwax waterproofing products, it will also deflect the rain. It can be worn alone, or combined with Nikwax Fleece to create a fully directional waterproof system, equivalent to an Analogy waterproof.

Choose a Páramo Poncho to provide rain protection without trapping heat…

The Poncho combines lightweight Nikwax® Windproof for shower resistance and quick drying with zoned Pump Liner® for extra protection and great water-shedding. The long length and spaciousness allow it to be put on quickly over a pack, while colour-coded poppers make it easy to create ‘sleeves’. The Poncho is easily folded into an internal pocket. So expect practical tropical shower protection for yourself and your equipment without overheating, in a self-contained minimal weight package.

How will my Páramo Windproof with added Analogy Pump Liner® outperform other windproofs?

Your Páramo windproof offers more versatility. It is water-repellent and has a hood, so provides a good level of protection when worn as an outer layer, while offering exceptional breathability. The addition of Pump Liner in the hood and shoulders significantly improves the water-shedding and weatherproof performance. In the worst conditions it can be combined with other Páramo baselayers or midlayers for a higher level of weather protection. Therefore, it can adapt easily to a wide range of conditions.

Páramo windproofs are tough and durable, so suitable to be used in many different environments without damage.

  1. Excellent water-shedding from shower-resistant lightweight windproof fabric with zoned Pump Liner® in high impact areas of hood and across the shoulders for additional protection but minimal weight and pack size.
  2. Poncho design ensures heat is not trapped, allowing the wearer to stay dry and keep equipment dry without overheating in warm conditions.
  3. Generous length with long back allows Poncho to be put on quickly over a pack and still provide great coverage.
  4. Simple hood with fixed elastication for ease of use.
  5. Colour-coded poppers at cuffs and sides are quickly engaged to provide sleeves and maintain use of hands.
  6. Easily stowed in small internal pocket.

What users say...

The Páramo poncho is an indispensable part of my kit. It has saved me and my equipment from many unexpected downpours - and allows me to keep working in wet conditions. It's lightweight, and packs down to a very small size. When it's needed it's quick to wear, and it's big enough to cover me, and a large backpack - or several people! It doubles up as a very useful hide for photographing wildlife, and as a ground sheet for laying out kit in field.”

Paul Williams, Wildlife photographer

“Out from dawn to dusk in the Guyana rainforest to see howler monkeys, colourful toucans and perhaps a jaguar, it was inevitable I’d encounter tropical downpours!

I’d chosen a poncho to minimise weight, space and overheating! I would have been far too hot in a jacket and the poncho protected me from the elements without heat building up. When the rain came I quickly put it over me and my photographic pack – it easily covered everything so my camera kit remained dry! The heavy rain ran off the poncho and with the lining on the hood and shoulders, I didn’t get wet! The side poppers were genius - as it wasn’t windy I could keep them open for maximum airflow, while the colour co-ordinated ones at the wrists gave the poncho ‘sleeves’ so it stayed in place and wasn’t unmanageable like other ponchos I’ve tried! It was lighter than a waterproof and took up barely any space in my pack.”

Michael Howard

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Poncho?

Your Poncho is designed to shed a tropical shower effectively without causing you to overheat. Therefore it is ideal for hot, humid conditions with short, sharp showers. Because the design is loose, the Poncho would not be ideal in a strong wind or in cooler conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax® Windproof or Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof to provide failsafe waterproofing and increased insulation.

Which garments should I use with my Nikwax® Windproof to get optimum performance?

We recommend using our Parameta A or Parameta T+ baselayers underneath this Windproof clothing.

Parameta A is an active cooling fabric, very effective in hot conditions where protection is needed from sun and insects. It can be worn under Nikwax® Windproof to transport moisture effectively when you’re working hard.

Parameta T+ fabric is a lightweight wicking baselayer for warmer conditions where you don’t need significant extra insulation. The fabric will manage any sweat you produce when working hard, rapidly moving it across the fabric for easy evaporation.

Páramo clothing does not rely on hazardous PFC treatments for water repellency.

Working closely with Nikwax, we have developed a pioneering PFC-free treatment for our fleeces, waterproofs and windproofs. Recent studies show that PFC’s are persistent in the environment and are damaging to human health; which is why Nikwax waterproofing solutions are water-based, use no harmful solvents or propellant gases, contain no damaging PFC’s and are not tested on animals.
