The Velez Jacket is for very active people who swap between outdoor activities.

If you enjoy mountain walking, cycling, climbing and backpacking, you need a versatile jacket suitable for all these activities. You also need to be able to keep cool when you are working hard, which is where clever ventilation comes in.

The Velez’s versatile design combines with the Nikwax Analogy® fabric for optimum comfort, providing waterproof protection, warmth, and cooling in one garment.

*Prices in this video subject to revision. 3 April 2017

The Velez combines discreet but very effective ventilation, with an athletic shape to minimise wind-resistance.

  • Optimum cooling when working hard provided by vents, combined with pocketing, carefully positioned for ease of use.
  • Enhanced weather protection when carrying a rucksack provided by mesh reinforcement in the back panel.
  • Athletic cut to minimise wind resistance and noise

Nikwax Analogy® is more than just breathable, it is directional, moving liquid water

Nikwax Analogy Waterproof FabricConventional breathable membrane waterproof fabrics fail because they cannot remove all of the sweat we produce when we are working hard, especially in cold and wet conditions. Therefore condensation and icing are well known problems experienced with membrane rainwear.

Nikwax Analogy® overcomes these problems because it is not only breathable, but also directional. The Analogy fabric system directs condensation and perspiration away from the body, where it can safely drain away.

To understand the difference between directionality and breathability, read more here.

Nikwax Analogy comes in two weights:

  • Nikwax Analogy®: durable, full-weight protection
  • Nikwax Analogy® Light: same protection, weighs 20% less. A little less durable, but perfect for fast & light adventures

Choose the Velez because of its versatility…

The Velez Jacket is a year-round, high energy jacket for a variety of outdoor activities in different conditions.

It offers flexible ventilation options, including very generous arm and torso vents, for swift and significant temperature adjustment while on the move. Constructed from rigorously tested standard and lightweight Nikwax Analogy fabrics zoned to give hard-wearing weather protection and perspiration removal. Excellent features provide top performance on the mountain.

So expect outstanding resistance to rain and condensation removal, huge versatility in temperature control, and an excellent performance to weight ratio.

How will your Páramo® outperform breathable membrane garments?

The Nikwax Analogy system is designed not only to be extremely breathable, but also directional. That means that it directs liquid water as well as water vapour towards the outside of the garment, protecting your insulation.

Although breathable membranes allow moisture vapour to pass through them, they do nothing to transport liquid water. Therefore, when the production of sweat exceeds moisture vapour transfer, they begin to build up condensation, soaking inner clothing.

So Nikwax Analogy garments work much better for heavy work, and in colder or highly humid conditions, because they actively move all perspiration and condensation outwards.

  1. Large, mesh lined sleeve/torso vents channel fresh air to inhibit cold spots and minimise rain ingress.
  2. Two “dual phase” chest pockets work as both vents and secure pockets for maps, navigation tools, valuables or handwarming.
  3. Excellent field of vision and protection provided by fully adjustable, helmet-compatible “halo” hood with wired peak.
  4. Fully articulated shoulders and elbows for maximum freedom of movement.
  5. Improved visibility from use of reflective flashes.
  6. Ventilation from two-way reversed front zip with internal storm flap.
  7. Scooped tail with hem drawcord for lower back protection.
  8. Rucksack, harness, helmet and glove friendly.

What users say...

“I spend a lot of time climbing whilst wearing the Men’s Velez Jacket, and I am impressed by how breathable it is. It's lightweight so I can carry it for use when the weather is changeable, and on stormy, wet days, it's an invaluable layer that consistently keeps me dry.”

Paul Williams, Wildlife photographer

“The Velez Jacket is probably the most impressive jacket I have ever owned and looking back the best item I took to South America. Having served its purpose admirably at altitude in Peru, it provided me no further headaches while scampering around hotter climates. Upon my return to wetter and chillier climes in the Isle of Man, I happily went about wearing the same jacket in all conditions, not once getting wet or feeling cold. To think this was the same jacket that kept me dry and allowed me to hike up hills in temperatures 20°C warmer without melting into a puddle boggles my mind.”

Juan McGuinness

The Great Outdoor Award 2017“Páramo’s Velez Jacket fitted all the criteria with a rigorous focus on recyclability, ethical manufacture and eliminating pollutants. The company-wide, long term ideals, combined with the qualities of this specific product, make it a clear winner.”

The Great Outdoors 2017

“Páramo uses a unique fabric that ensure far greater breathability and better condensation management that other fabrics and the result is more comfort, particularly on cold and wet days. The Velez is designed for year-round use in a range of activities, including cycling, climbing and backpacking, so it has a short body length with excellent sleeve movement for scrambing. The hood fit and movement is outstanding, while a wired peak allows clear vision. It works well on the hill.”

Watch video review

“I’ve worn various Paramo jackets over the years and this is my favourite. The balance between using the Analogy and Analogy Light material is good as it saves weight. The design is good too - the cut longer and less boxy than Páramo jackets of a few years ago. I like the pockets and some thought has gone into them. The hood is the usual Páramo high standard. I think this jacket is a winner and would happily recommend it.”

Mark Waring, long distance walker

“The Velez Jacket is a great all around jacket, I used it to climb Mont Blanc via the Brouillard ridge through brutally rough chimneys and on a 14 days canoe trip in the remote wilderness of Rogen in Sweden where it rained almost everyday. It does not have a scratch nor was I ever sweaty nor wet, simply better than anything if tried so far. Great durability, Breathability, Waterproofness and Comfort. Once you put it on, you simply never take it off”

The Nikwax Analogy® Fabric System

“I am a mountaineering instructor working in Wales during the summer and Scotland through the winter. Over the past 12 years I have used various different clothing systems. Of all the systems I have used I have not found anything that beats Páramo. A lot of hard shell systems claim to be breathable and waterproof - this may be true in laboratory tests but in reality when used for a day in typical Scottish winter conditions they fall a long way short of their claims. On the other hand, Páramo systems do what they say”

Chris Thorne, Llyn Adventures

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my jacket?

Your Jacket has been tested at the Leeds University Rain Roomto resist at least 4 hours of steady rain. You can use it throughout the year in cold or wet conditions.

Because the fabric system offers significant insulation when the ventilation zips are closed, this is not the best garment to deal with very hot conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax® Windproof, perhaps combined with one of our Parameta® T+ baselayers, to optimise breathability and cooling, or with Nikwax® Fleece for full weather protection.

Which garments should I use with my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof to get optimum performance?

We recommend using our Parameta T+, Parameta T or Parameta G baselayers under your Nikwax Analogy clothing.

Parameta T+ fabric is a lightweight wicking baselayer fabric for warmer conditions where you don’t need significant insulation. The fabric manages the sweat you produce when working hard, rapidly moving it across the fabric for evaporation.

Our Parameta T baselayer fabric is designed to provide a good balance between light insulation and heat dissipation for a wide range of activities in mid-range temperatures.

Our Parameta G fabric is a versatile baselayer fabric, perfect for days when you’re planning high activity in colder conditions. The raised grid texture allows wind to pass through it, giving excellent cooling when venting through a waterproof - perfect for going up hill. When you stop at the top of the hill, close the vents on your outer layer and the raised grid will trap a layer of warm air for insulation.

For trips when you’re likely to experience extreme cold, our Nikwax Insulator garments are designed to be worn on top of your waterproof clothing. This is great when stopping whether to eat lunch, take some photographs or set up camp.

Páramo® clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments for water-repellency.

Páramo have pioneered a treatment programme for waterproofs, fleeces and windproofs which enables us to take untreated fabrics and add Nikwax® waterproofing, not reliant on fluorocarbons to repel water. Studies show that fluorocarbons of all kinds persist in the environment and are damaging to human health. Nikwax waterproofing solutions are water-based and use no harmful solvents or propellant gases, are not tested on animals, not harmful to humans, and contain no damaging fluorocarbons.
