The Halcon is ideal for country activities from walking to nature watching & photography.

Country activities involve exertion while moving, then being stationary for long periods. To remain comfortable, you need efficient moisture control to prevent chilling, and ventilation options to reduce clothing changes. Essential equipment needs to be within easy reach with minimal disruption.

Tough directional Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof fabric gives dry comfort, with easy temperature control provided by vents. The Halcon offers carefully planned pocketing.

For every Halcon sold a sapling is planted by Trees for Life - click here to find out about their work.

The Halcon Jacket has plentiful pockets, good ventilation options and a well-designed hood.

  • Excellent, easily accessible storage from nine well-placed pockets, including fleece-lined handwarming pockets.
  • Additional ventilation which limits the need for clothing changes from upper arm vents, two way front zip and sleeves that can be pushed up for cooling.
  • Uninterrupted vision in all weathers due to the fully-adjustable hood with wired peak which moves with you and folds into a fleecy collar.

Nikwax Analogy® is a quiet and soft waterproof fabric that is more than just breathable, it is directional, moving liquid water.

Nikwax Analogy Waterproof FabricConventional breathable membrane waterproofs fail because they cannot remove all the sweat we produce when working hard, especially in cold, wet conditions. Nikwax Analogy® overcomes this as it is not only breathable, but directional. The Analogy fabric directs condensation and sweat away from you, so it safely drains away. Read more here about the difference between directionality and breathability.

Because the fabric does not need membranes or laminates, it is rustle-free and flexible but still strong and durable.

Choose the Halcon Jacket for its ability to provide rustle-free, all-weather protection combined with generous pocketing...

The Halcon Jacket uses soft, quiet but tough Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric, with a superb protective hood that moves with your head. Upper arm vents make it easy for you to control your temperature. The nine pockets are carefully placed for quick access to essential equipment.

So expect outstanding weather protection without rustle, effective condensation removal and cooling when required plus pockets where you need them.

How will your Páramo® outperform breathable membrane garments?

The Nikwax Analogy system is designed not only to be extremely breathable, but also directional. That means that it directs liquid water as well as water vapour towards the outside of the garment, protecting your insulation.

Although breathable membranes allow moisture vapour to pass through them, they do nothing to transport liquid water. Therefore, when the production of sweat exceeds moisture vapour transfer, they begin to build up condensation, soaking inner clothing.

So Nikwax Analogy garments work much better for heavy work, and in colder or highly humid conditions, because they actively move all perspiration and condensation outwards.

  • Fully adjustable, roll-away hood with wired peak for excellent field of vision and fit.
  • Fleece-lined collar for extra comfort.
  • Articulated shoulders and sleeves for maximum movement.
  • Two-way reversed zip with poppered internal storm flap allows ventilation and access to inner layers.
  • Upper arm vents allow venting and temperature control.
  • Increased comfort when load-carrying from reinforced shoulder construction and removable foam insert strips in back.
  • Easily adjustable cuff design allows sleeves to be pushed or rolled up for cooling.
  • Excellent weather protection from 2” drip skirt and scooped tail.
  • Additional temperature control from single-handed concealed waist and hem drawcord pulls.
  • Nine well-placed pockets:
    • Two external secure and ‘dry’ breast pockets large enough for field guides, OS map storage etc.
    • A large and secure internal mesh breast pocket.
    • ‘Dry’ storage from two large bellows pockets with secure fold-over tops with poppers.
    • Two zipped and fleece-lined handwarming pockets located behind bellows pockets.
    • Two low level capacious inner mesh pockets.
  • Trees for lifeReduce the ‘carbon footprint’ of your Halcon Jacket and make a positive impact on wildlife. We've teamed up with Trees for Life, an award winning conservation charity dedicated to the regeneration and restoration of the Caledonian Forest in the Highlands of Scotland. For every Halcon Jacket purchased a sapling will be planted.

What users say...

"As zip front jackets go, Halcon is the Swiss Army knife! There are pockets for everything, including zippable hand-warmer pockets. The neck-warming collar and hood is superb, and, as with all Páramo garments, the fit and finish of the fabric is impeccable. Being wind and waterproof while still highly breathable make it perfect for active use in our weather, while the generous cut gives ample space for an insulating layer beneath while waiting for the light to change on a winter day. A fantastic all-rounder."

Joe Cornish, Landscape Photographer

"After 16 years of using a Cascada jacket I thought it was time for a change so I bought a Halcon from Penrith Survival Equipment whilst down in Cumbria on a training course. I have to say that the thought that went into to layout of the Halcon is second to none. All the pockets are perfect, the handwarmers are to die for and the jacket just works. Light weight, comfortable with the best hood ever made I am looking forward to the next 16 years with this jacket. (the Cascada is still being used by the way. I just can't kill it)"

Euan Innes

"As a landscape photographer I spend a lot of time standing around in cold and windy places, and the Halcon Jacket is second to none at keeping the weather out. The fleece-lined neck is a really nice touch, and with a choice of external pockets my camera accessories can be kept handy, plus the bonus hand-warming pockets really do work."

Fran Halsall, OWPG

The Nikwax Analogy® Fabric System

“I am a mountaineering instructor working in Wales during the summer and Scotland through the winter. Over the past 12 years I have used various different clothing systems. Of all the systems I have used I have not found anything that beats Páramo. A lot of hard shell systems claim to be breathable and waterproof - this may be true in laboratory tests but in reality when used for a day in typical Scottish winter conditions they fall a long way short of their claims. On the other hand, Páramo systems do what they say”

Chris Thorne, Llyn Adventures

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Halcon jacket?

Your Halcon Jacket has been tested at the Leeds University Rain Room to resist at least 4 hours of steady rain. You can use it throughout the year in cold or wet conditions.

Because the fabric system offers significant insulation when the ventilation zips are closed, this is not the best garment to deal with very hot conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax® Windproof, perhaps combined with one of our Parameta® T+ baselayers, to optimise breathability and cooling, or with Nikwax® Fleece for full weather protection.

Which garments should I use with my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof to get optimum performance?

We recommend using our Parameta T+, Parameta T or Parameta G baselayers under your Nikwax Analogy clothing.

Parameta T+ fabric is a lightweight wicking baselayer fabric for warmer conditions where you don’t need significant insulation. The fabric manages the sweat you produce when working hard, rapidly moving it across the fabric for evaporation.

Our Parameta T baselayer fabric is designed to provide a good balance between light insulation and heat dissipation for a wide range of activities in mid-range temperatures.

Our Parameta G fabric is a versatile baselayer fabric, perfect for days when you’re planning high activity in colder conditions. The raised grid texture allows wind to pass through it, giving excellent cooling when venting through a waterproof - perfect for going up hill. When you stop at the top of the hill, close the vents on your outer layer and the raised grid will trap a layer of warm air for insulation.

For trips when you’re likely to experience extreme cold, our Nikwax Insulator garments are designed to be worn on top of your waterproof clothing. This is great when stopping whether to eat lunch, take some photographs or set up camp.

Every jacket bought plants a sapling with Trees for Life, an award-winning charity dedicated to regenerating and restoring the Caledonian Forest in the Scottish Highlands. Reduce your jacket’s ‘carbon footprint’ and make a positive impact on wildlife.

Páramo® clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments for water-repellency.

Páramo have pioneered a treatment programme for waterproofs, fleeces and windproofs which enables us to take untreated fabrics and add Nikwax® waterproofing, not reliant on fluorocarbons to repel water.
