The Quito is for very active people who want to carry the absolute minimum and adjust for temperature without changing clothing.

If you ride a bike in the city, or a mountain bike, or enjoy strenuous day walks and climbs, you need a versatile jacket. The Quito combines good protection from wind and rain, and will keep you warm when fully zipped up. However, when you are working hard you can get free flow of air through opening the side zips.

The Quito provides waterproof protection, warmth AND cooling in one lightweight garment.

The Quito has massive ventilation combined with lightweight, but warm fabrics, and cleverly located internal pockets

  • Optimum cooling when working hard provided by massive zipped vents, carefully positioned for ease of use.
  • Weight efficiency by combining zipped vents with access to internal handwarming pockets.
  • Lightweight and compact packing through the Nikwax Analogy Light system.

Nikwax Analogy® is more than just breathable, it is directional, moving liquid water

Nikwax Analogy Waterproof FabricConventional breathable membrane waterproof fabrics fail because they cannot remove all of the sweat we produce when we are working hard, especially in cold and wet conditions. Therefore condensation and icing are well known problems experienced with membrane rainwear.

Nikwax Analogy® overcomes these problems because it is not only breathable, but also directional. The Analogy fabric system directs condensation and perspiration away from the body, where it can safely drain away.

To understand the difference between directionality and breathability, read more here.

Nikwax Analogy comes in two weights:

  • Nikwax Analogy®: durable, full-weight protection
  • Nikwax Analogy® Light: same protection, weighs 20% less. A little less durable, but perfect for fast & light adventures

Choose a Quito Waterproof Jacket because of its versatility …

The Quito jacket combines the Nikwax Analogy waterproof system with a slimmed down design. It incorporates huge ventilation to adapt to warmer conditions. The ventilation side zips allow hand-warmer access, thereby minimising external pockets. So expect outstanding resistance to rain and condensation removal, huge versatility in temperature control, and an excellent performance to weight ratio.

How will your Páramo® outperform breathable membrane garments?

The Nikwax Analogy system is designed not only to be extremely breathable, but also directional. That means that it directs liquid water as well as water vapour towards the outside of the garment, protecting your insulation.

Although breathable membranes allow moisture vapour to pass through them, they do nothing to transport liquid water. Therefore, when the production of sweat exceeds moisture vapour transfer, they begin to build up condensation, soaking inner clothing.

So Nikwax Analogy garments work much better for heavy work, and in colder or highly humid conditions, because they actively move all perspiration and condensation outwards.

  1. Enormous torso vents provide flexible ventilation, for swift and significant temperature adjustment on the move.
  2. Lightweight outer fabric
  3. Excellent field of vision and protection
  4. Reflective strip front and back makes you more visible when cycling at night.
  5. Fully articulated shoulders and elbows for maximum freedom of movement.
  6. Longer sleeves suitable for a cycling posture with wide cuffs that can be pushed up for cooling.
  7. Scooped tail for additional protection to lower back.

Best For Ethics Logo“The fabric is soft, breathable and rustle-free, and the jacket is well vented so it’s very comfortable. Verdict: An ethical and comfortable waterproof. 9/10”

Trail Running, Men’s Waterproofs review, Nov 2017

“An exceptional piece of kit. Comfortable. Flexible. Totally effective. The combination of this jacket, shorts & flip-flops kept me comfortable throughout Central America.”

Peter Ridley

“Have now had my Quito Jacket for a week, and it's all I expected - perhaps even better than I expected. The main pocket/venting arrangement works really well when riding a bike, and means that you can also access stuff in shirt pockets etc without having to unzip the main zip. The long sleeves give you really good protection in heavy rain, and the neck/hood can be adjusted to fit closely. Very happy so far.”

“I used to struggle with temperature control, as I run quite hot most of the time. My Páramo gear works so well to help cool me down whilst I'm moving, but then retain the heat I need when I stop. I took part in a challenge, climbing Sgurr Dearg and the 'Inaccessible Pinnacle' in the Black Cuillins, on the Isle of Skye. The Cuillin range is renowned for its sharp, Gabbro rock. It has claimed many a jacket by snagging and ripping the fabric. The guides there are utterly convinced by Nikwax Analogy fabrics, and I can wholeheartedly agree. They seem far less susceptible to snagging and ripping, despite being so soft. It was 19C at sea level, and close to freezing at the summit with the wind chill. The walking, and then scrambling, and then climbing the 'In Pinn' were all done in just my Quito with a thin base layer underneath. I can't thank Páramo enough for designing these jackets, which seem to possess magical properties! PS I did add another layer once we stopped on the summit, to retain some extra heat - my Torres Overlayering Gilet (Lightweight), which I also value very highly.”

The Nikwax Analogy® Fabric System

“I am a mountaineering instructor working in Wales during the summer and Scotland through the winter. Over the past 12 years I have used various different clothing systems. Of all the systems I have used I have not found anything that beats Páramo. A lot of hard shell systems claim to be breathable and waterproof - this may be true in laboratory tests but in reality when used for a day in typical Scottish winter conditions they fall a long way short of their claims. On the other hand, Páramo systems do what they say”

Chris Thorne, Llyn Adventures

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Quito?

Your Quito has been tested to resist at least 4 hours of steady rain; therefore you can use it throughout the year in a temperate climate, and even at high altitude. Because the fabric system offers significant insulation when the ventilation zips are closed, this is not the best garment to deal with heavy showers in very hot conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax Windproof, perhaps combined with one of our Parameta T+ baselayers, to optimise breathability and cooling.

Which garments should I use with my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof to get optimum performance?

We recommend using our Parameta T+, Parameta T or Parameta G baselayers under your Nikwax Analogy clothing.

Parameta T+ fabric is a lightweight wicking baselayer fabric for warmer conditions where you don’t need significant insulation. The fabric manages the sweat you produce when working hard, rapidly moving it across the fabric for evaporation.

Our Parameta T baselayer fabric is designed to provide a good balance between light insulation and heat dissipation for a wide range of activities in mid-range temperatures.

Our Parameta G fabric is a versatile baselayer fabric, perfect for days when you’re planning high activity in colder conditions. The raised grid texture allows wind to pass through it, giving excellent cooling when venting through a waterproof - perfect for going up hill. When you stop at the top of the hill, close the vents on your outer layer and the raised grid will trap a layer of warm air for insulation.

For trips when you’re likely to experience extreme cold, our Nikwax Insulator garments are designed to be worn on top of your waterproof clothing. This is great when stopping whether to eat lunch, take some photographs or set up camp.

Páramo® clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments for water-repellency.

Páramo have pioneered a treatment programme for waterproofs, fleeces and windproofs which enables us to take untreated fabrics and add Nikwax® waterproofing, not reliant on fluorocarbons to repel water. Studies show that fluorocarbons of all kinds persist in the environment and are damaging to human health. Nikwax waterproofing solutions are water-based and use no harmful solvents or propellant gases, are not tested on animals, not harmful to humans, and contain no damaging fluorocarbons.
